The station was opened on July 1, 1977 .
The opening of the station was combined with the completion of the construction of the 19.0 km railway line connecting the National Airport and the RFK Stadium and the opening of the stations Arlington Cemetery , Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport , Eastern Market , Crystal City , Capital South , L ' Enfant Plaza , McPherson Square , Pentagon , Pentagon City , Potomac Avenue , Rosslyn , Smithsonian , Stadium Armery , Farragut West , Federal Triangle and Foggy Bottom - TWE [2] . The orange line has been serving the station since its opening on November 20, 1978 [3] . The opening of the Silver Line is scheduled for 2013 [4] .
