Story
Sam Kerraklaf, a miner who tries to earn enough money to feed his family, sells Lassie's collie to the Duke of Radling, leaving his little son heartbroken over the loss of his friend.
The coal mine is closed and Sam loses his job. To survive, Sam sells Lassie to the Duke. But the loss of Lassie broke Joe's heart. Even Lassie wants to go back to Joe. Lassie uses many tricks to break out of the hands of Hines, who takes care of the Duke's dogs. Several times, Lassie leaves the cage and returns to Joe. But, remembering his deal, Sam returns it to the duke. Soon, the Duke brings Lassie to Scotland. The duke's granddaughter understands Lassie's longing and soon helps Lassie escape. Lassie's long journey home to Joe begins. On the way, Lassie met a wandering artist with a tiny dog named Toots and made friends with them. One day, a traveler encounters two robbers, one of whom kills Toots. But Lassie saves the traveler. After some time, the paths of Lassie and the artist parted. Tired and sick, Lassie eventually arrives home after nearly 400 miles. After so many anxieties, his companion Lassie returns to Joe, and the Duke takes Sam to work instead of Hines.
Production
This is the eleventh film about Lassie, according to the producers. It is based on the novel by Eric Knight, “ Lassie Returns Home, ” released in 1940 [1] . The shooting took place in Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. Due to quarantine restrictions, Hey II, a descendant of Pal who starred in the last 13 episodes of the series “ Lassie ” was unable to take part in the filming. As a result, the dogs that played the main role in the film (the main actor Mason and the understudy Dakota) were taken from another kennel. Hey Hey II appears in the film in an episode in a nursery where he played himself. The scene with his participation was shot in Los Angeles using blue screen technology, and then inserted into the film.
