Botanical Description
Cherry-shaped cherries - a tree , usually reaching 10 (rarely 30) meters in height. Young branches are green, pubescent, then bare.
Leaves ranging from ovate-lanceolate to oblong-obovate, 4-12 cm long and 2.2-5 cm wide, leathery, with a once- or double-toothed edge. Petioles up to 2 cm long, glabrous. The upper surface of the leaf blade is dark green, glabrous, the bottom is light green, sometimes glandular on the veins. Stipules are linear.
Pink or white flowers, solitary or collected in 2-4 in umbrella inflorescences, bloom before the appearance of leaves or simultaneously with it. Bracts are brownish, almost rounded, with a serrated margin. Sepals are deltoid, straight, reddish. Petals obovate or ovate, with a solid or notched end. Pestle naked. Stamens in the amount of 32-34, one length with a pestle, shorter than the petals.
The fruit is an ovoid drupe up to 1.5 cm in diameter, purple-black. The intruder is furrowed. Edible, has a sweet and sour taste.
Range
Cherry-shaped cherries are common in continental Southeast Asia - from northern India in the west to Vietnam in the east.
