Feature Songs
According to many folklorists, the content of Kupala songs is weakly associated with ritual actions and the mythological meaning of the holiday. Among the multi-genre texts of the Kupala cycle there are many lyric songs with a love and family theme; playful refrain-wrangles between boys and girls; round dance and playing songs; ballads, etc. Their belonging to Kupala songs is determined by specific (“Kupala”) types of tunes and confinement to a specific calendar period. At other times, such songs were not accepted. The texts, in the motives of which reflect the connection with the rite and with the meaning of the holiday itself, most often include a specific refrain, which is repeated after each song line, or a special purpose and ending of the song: “Kupala!”, “Kupala on Ivan!”, “Kupalyale! "," Our God! "," Oh wound-wound on Jan! "," And that! ", Etc. Such ritual songs usually take the form of short refrains. According to popular commentaries, “these are uninteresting songs to be sung often, but it’s impossible to go to Kupala without them - such a custom”; “ Firewood is a song, short, once a year and we sing them only, we sing along the fire” [1] .
