Biography

Came from the Polish gentry clan Advanets coat of arms Abdank . The second son of the Polish gentry Mikhail Advants (d. 1392), the owner of Buchach , and Margarita Kolo. The brothers are the general elder of Podolsk Theodor Buchatsky (d. 1456) and governor of Podolsky Mikhail "Muzhilo" Buchatsky (d. 1470).

He was probably born in his father’s castle Buchach , from whom he received his family name.

Since 1414, Mikhail Buchatsky was mentioned in the rank of the headman of Galitsky , in 1433 he became the Galician coughing . Later he received the Kamenetsky and Przemyslsky elder in the holding.

After the death of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vitovt Keistutovich on October 27, 1430, Mikhail Buchatsky, together with his brothers Theodore and Mikhail "Muzhilo", moved with the army from the Galician land, which was part of the Kingdom of Poland , to Podolsk land , which belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . The Lithuanian governor of Kamenetz-Podolsky, Jan Dovgerd, did not know about the death of Vytautas . Mikhail Buchatsky, Kamenets Bishop Pavel, and the previous Kamenets headman Jan Gritsko Kerdei called him into conversation, during which they were captured. After that, the Polish magnates were able to capture the Podolsk castles Kamenetz , Smotrych , Chervonogrod and Skala .

Between the Great Principality of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland, a border war broke out over the possession of Podolia. The Grand Duke of Lithuania Svidrigailo , who held his older brother, the Polish king Jagiello , captive, forced him to sign agreements in November 1430, under which Poland had to return to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania all captured border cities and castles in Podolia. Jagiello issued two orders: the official - to return the Podolsk castles and lands of Svidrigailo , and the secret one with the opposite meaning. Jagiello and Svidrigailo sent their representatives Tarlo Schekarevich and Prince Mikhail Babu-Drutsky to Kamenetz-Podolsky , so that they passed the royal decree to Polish nobles. Mikhail Buchatsky refused to comply with him and arrested the ambassadors. Svidrigailo set out on a campaign to Podolia , but was able to occupy only its northeastern part. At the end of 1430, Svidrigailo’s troops besieged the Podolsk castle Smotrych , but were recaptured by the Poles who came to the rescue from Kamenets .

In 1431, Mikhail Buchatsky and his brothers participated in the military campaign of Jagiello against the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. During the siege by the Polish army of Lutsk, it became known that the Moldavian ruler Alexander Dobry , an ally of Svidrigailo , attacked the Kolomyia , Galician and Kamenetz povets. Jagiello sent a Polish army from Lutsk to Alexander led by Mikhail and Theodorich Buchatsky, who defeated the Moldavian army near Kamenetz-Podolsky . The Poles recaptured part of the loot and captives from Moldavians.

In 1432, Mikhail Buchatsky participated in hostilities against the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . Prince Fyodor of Ostrog , an ally of Svidrigailo , invaded Podolia , but could not drive out the Polish garrisons. Mikhail Buchatsky defeated during the crossing of the river. The Dniester of Alexander the Good , who devastated Podolia , Pokuttye and part of the Galician land . In 1433, Mikhail Buchatsky participated in the signing of a truce with Svidrigail . This helped Jagiello join the Western Podillia to the Polish crown. In gratitude for the services, Jagiello granted Mikhail Buchatsky lands and high posts in the Podolsk and Russian voivodships .

In 1433, Mikhail Buchatsky, as royal elder, took in Kolomyia the oath of oath of Moldavian ruler Stephen II for allegiance to the Polish crown. In 1437, Mikhail Buchatsky was appointed governor of Podolsk .

In 1438, during the raid of the Great Horde Khan Seid-Ahmed on Podolia, Mikhail Buchatsky died in the battle with the Tatars near Krasnopol. It is possible that he was buried in Lviv , where the Buchatsky family chapel was located in the Latin Cathedral .
