Baron Nikolai Ivanovich Meller-Zakomelsky ( October 17, 1813 - September 8, 1887 , Tsarskoye Selo ) - infantry general, adjutant general. The great-grandson of General Anshef I. I. Meller-Zakomelsky and the grandson of “Russian Columbus” G. I. Shelikhov .

Biography
The son of staff captain Baron Ivan Karlovich Meller-Zakomelsky (1787-1846) from his marriage with Natalya Grigorievna Shelikhova (1793-1868). He studied at the School of Guard Ensigns and Cavalry Junkers , from where he was released on November 8, 1833 as an ensign in the Life Guards Semyonovsky Regiment , where after two and a half months he was promoted to lieutenant with the appointment of a battalion adjutant. In November 1837 he was appointed correcting the position of adjutant to the head of the 1st Guards Infantry Division . In December 1838 he was promoted to lieutenant , confirmed as adjutant and soon returned to the regiment.
In 1842 he was promoted to headquarters captain and sent to the Separate Caucasian Corps , where he entered the detachment of M.P. Grabbe . As part of this detachment, he participated in the Ichkeria expedition, distinguished himself in battles and was awarded the Order of St. Anne with a bow. Then he was in the detachment of Colonel R.K. Freytag during the construction of the Oisungur fortress. On his return from the Caucasus on December 6, 1845 he was promoted to captain .
He participated in the Hungarian campaign of 1849 . May 24, 1849 promoted to colonel and December 6 appointed commander of the 7th Grenadier Samogit regiment . During the Crimean War, he was part of the troops guarding Finland. In 1855 he was appointed to command the Life Guards Lithuanian Regiment . On the day of the coronation of Alexander II , August 26, 1856 promoted to major general .
During the Polish uprising of 1863 he was appointed assistant chief of the Warsaw Guard detachment and was awarded the Golden Saber “For Courage” and the Order of St. Anne with the imperial crown and swords [1] for differences in fights with rebels.
On July 7, 1863 he was appointed head of the 3rd Guards Infantry Division , on August 30 he was promoted to lieutenant general . September 21, 1868 granted the rank of Adjutant General . On February 19, 1877 he was appointed commander of the 5th Army , and on March 4 - the 6th Army Corps. On April 16, 1878 he was promoted to infantry general and appointed a member of the Military Council with admission to the Guards Infantry.
Family
He was married to the daughter of a state councilor Sofya Mikhailovna Kusovnikova (1817-28.05.1911). During her husband's service in Warsaw, she was chairman of the Ladies Committee of the Red Cross. She died in old age in May 1911 in Tsarskoye Selo. She had sons in marriage:
- Alexander (1844-1928), infantry general, member of the Council of State .
- Nikolai (11/14/1845 - 11/26/1846)
- Sergey (1848-1899), lieutenant general.
