History
The newspaper "Latest News" began to appear on April 27, 1920 . Her first editor was M. L. Goldstein (former editor of Evening Time ). It had a left-wing radical direction, was non-partisan, and became the first serious publication of the Russian emigration. However, less than a year later, Goldstein sold the newspaper, and it became the organ of the Republican Democratic Association . On March 1, 1921, the newspaper was edited by M. M. Vinavera , A. I. Konovalov and V. A. Kharlamov , and P. N. Milyukov became the editor-in-chief. Milyukov's assistant was A. A. Polyakov [1] .
In the early years, the newspaper appeared on four pages, then on six, and since 1931 on eight pages. The competent editorial policy of P. N. Milyukov contributed to the growth of the newspaper's popularity among Russian emigrants in Paris. The involvement of well-known journalists, publicists and writers as employees and authors of the newspaper increased the number of readers and subscribers. Soon, the "Latest News" reached circulations comparable to French newspapers (in the early 1930s more than 30,000 copies were printed, sometimes the circulation reached 35,000 ), and readers appeared not only in France, but throughout Europe [1] .
The last, 7015 issue of the newspaper was published on June 11, 1940 . On June 14 , a few hours before the Germans arrived in Paris , the newspaper ceased to exist [1] .
