Hallelujah, I Love Her So

“ Hallelujah, I Love Her So ” ( Hallelujah, I Love Her So Much) is a rhythm and blues song written and first performed by American musician Ray Charles . The song was published in 1956 as a single of the same name (with the song “What Would I Do Without You” on side “B” ); later she also entered the album Ray Charles (1957). The song reached number five on the Rhythm & Blues Records chart. Like the earlier songs of Ray Charles “ I Got a Woman ” and “ This Little Girl of Mine ”, this song used the gospel style as its source, but is characterized by quite secular lyrics. The song greatly contributed to the popularity of Ray Charles, became very famous and was subsequently re-chanted by many famous performers.

“Hallelujah, I Love Her So” is a kind of hymn to joyful manifestations of love (in the original version as the story progresses, it turns out that it is about father’s love for his daughter: “She kisses me and she hold me tight, and tell me„ Daddy everything's all right “” - “She kisses and hugs me tightly and says:“ Dad, everything is fine ””). The characteristic features of the musical design are the unusual sound of wind instruments and a memorable saxophone solo. The song was produced by Jerry Wexler.

Cover versions

The song was repeatedly sung by many famous artists (often with a changed name and text). Of the most notable cover versions, the following can be noted:

The original “home” record went on bootlegs for a long time, until it was finally released in 1995 on the album Anthology 1 , while the album version was edited: it was slightly accelerated (which led to an increase in sound by a semitone), the second verse was omitted , middle section and somewhat sloppy guitar solo (probably performed by Harrison ). As a result, the length of the composition was reduced from 2:22 to 1:13 [2] [3] .
  • The famous American author and performer Stevie Wonder , at a very young age, recorded a cover version of the song, released on the album Tribute to Uncle Ray (1962) [4] .
