His first musical was the 1936 film Born to Dance, in which Stewart performed the composer Cole Porter's hit song, Easy To Love. His partner in that film was Elyanor Powell (Marjorie Lane sang for her). The second musical in his career was the 1941 film Pot of Gold, where his partner was Polett Goddard (Vera Ven sang for her).

Small roles in the 1978 film were played by such stars as Mickey Rooney and Alice Fay. The script and songs for the film were written by well-known authors, the Sherman Brothers, who became famous for the 1964 musical comedy "Mary Poppins" starring Julie Andrews. Their song When You're Loved , performed by Debbie Boone, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song . The tape was the only musical film featuring Lassie .

The film was released a little later than the blockbuster 1977 Star Wars and appeared to the public to be old-fashioned, as a result of which it failed at the box office. James Stuart's play and singing has also been criticized. After the failure of the film, he practically stopped acting in films, appearing only on television.

Story

The story begins at Mitchell Winery in Northern California. Lassie lives with Clovis Mitchell and his grandchildren, Chris and Kelly, but once the former owner of the dog is announced. He takes Lassie to his place in Colorado Springs. Unhappy with his new home, the dog runs away and travels to several states to be with the Mitchell family again.
