Biography

Stepan Kidko was born in 1915 . In 1941, he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of World War II. By September 1943, the captain Stepan Kidko commanded a battalion of the 136th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 42nd Guards Rifle Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .

September 23, 1943 Kidko crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Grebeni, Kagarlyksky district, Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the seizure and retention of a bridgehead on its western shore for several days [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 29, 1943, Captain Stepan Kidko was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of the command missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard. He did not manage to receive the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal , since in October 1944 he died in battles in the territory of the Lithuanian SSR [1] .
