Biography

Mikhail Kvasnikov was born in 1922 in the village of Spiridovo (now - the Sonkovsky district of the Tver region ). He lived and worked in Monchegorsk . In May 1941, Kvasnikov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since June of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By October 1944, the Guard Corporal Mikhail Kvasnikov was a mortar man of the 28th Guards Rifle Regiment ( 10th Guards Rifle Division , 99th Rifle Corps , 14th Army , Karelian Front ). He distinguished himself during the battles in the Murmansk region [1] .

On October 7, 1944, during a battle near Mount Maly Karikvayvish in the Kola District, Kvasnikov was one of the first to break into German trenches. On October 9, he saved the battalion commander who was injured from imminent captivity. On October 13, Kvasnikov, at the head of a group of headquarters fighters, repelled several German counterattacks. In that battle, he was injured, but continued to fight.

February 25, 1945 Kvasnikov died in battle near the village of south-west of the city of Chojnice . He was buried at the war memorial in the city of Szczecinek [1] .

Rewards

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, Corporal Mikhail Kvasnikov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the heroism and courage shown" of the guard. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and the medal "For Courage" [1] .
