Tulua is a city located in the heart of the Cauca Valley in the Valle del Cauca department in Colombia . Being an important industrial and economic center, Tulua is the fourth largest city in the department after the capital Cali , Buenaventura and Palmyra . Founded around 1741 by Juan de Lemos and Aguirre, it has a population of about 200,000 inhabitants. The city is also called Corazón del Valle (translated as “the heart of the valley”), La Villa de Céspedes (“the city of Cespedes,” in honor of naturalist Juan Maria Cespedes) and Tierra Fácil (“light land” in the local language).

Geography
The Tulua River crosses the city. The city is located 433 km from Bogota , the capital of Colombia, 101 km north-east of Cali and 174 km from the important port city of Buenaventura , located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Education
Valle University has a branch in Tulua. The main campus of the university is located in Cali, the capital of the department. The main campus of UCEVA (Valle del Cauca Central University) is located in Tulua.
