For each species from the main list, illustrations, a distribution map are given, the status and category of rarity are determined, a brief description, information on the number and necessary protection measures are given.

In 2018, the list of taxa and populations of animals, plants, and fungi included in the Red Book was updated [4] .

Categories and statuses of rarity

For inclusion in the Red Book, the following classification of wildlife is used according to the rarity of their taxa and populations [4] .

CategoryStatusDescription
0Probably disappearedTaxa and populations previously known in the territory (or water area) of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and whose presence in nature has not been confirmed (for invertebrates - in the last 100 years, for vertebrates - in the last 50 years)
oneEndangeredTaxa and populations, the number of individuals of which has decreased to a critical level so that in the near future they can disappear
2Declining in numberTaxa and populations with a steadily decreasing abundance, which, upon further exposure to factors that reduce abundance, can quickly become extinct.
3RareTaxa and populations that are small in size and distributed in a limited area (or water area) or sporadically distributed in large areas (or water areas)
fourUndefined by statusTaxa and populations that probably belong to one of the previous categories, but there is currently no sufficient information about their state in nature, or they do not fully meet the criteria of all other categories
fiveRecoverable and recoveringTaxa and populations, the number and distribution of which under the influence of natural causes or as a result of measures taken, have begun to recover and are approaching a state where urgent protection and reproduction measures will not be needed
