Edition

The first edition of the Red Book of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (NAO) was released in 2006. The Red Book of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug is an official publication intended both for specialists and for a wide range of readers.

The publication provides a list of rare and endangered animals, plants and fungi of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The list contains 225 species - 123 plant species (of which 102 species of vascular plants: 2 species of fern-shaped and 100 species of flowering department), 36 species of mushrooms and lichens, 66 species of animals. [2]

For each species from the main list, illustrations, a distribution map are given, the status and category of rarity are determined, a brief description, information on the number and necessary protection measures are given.

In February 2018, the NAO prosecutor’s office sent a lawsuit to the Naryan-Mar City Court to force the Department of Natural Resources, Ecology and Agro-Industrial Complex of the NAO and KU NAO “Center for Use of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection” to ensure the publication of the Red Book, the publication of which should be carried out at least once at 10 years old [3] .
