Major League Championship Format
Basketball Championship of Ukraine 1995/1996 was held by the Basketball Federation of Ukraine. According to the regulations, the competition was to be held in two or three stages.
The first stage is the regular season, the format is two circles
The second stage - the division of teams into two groups: - teams that took 1st-6th place in the first stage - teams that took 7th-12th place in the first stage
The third stage (possibly) - playoffs (semi-finals, final to three wins). Matches could take place only if, after the second stage of the championship, the difference in the number of victories between the first and second teams, as well as between the third and fourth, will be less than three victories.
The rules of the match compared to the 1994/1995 season remained the same: four quarters of 12 minutes, the maximum allowable number of fouls is 6, two legionnaires can be involved in the team.

Championship
The match of the last round of the second stage of the championship determined whether there would be a playoff in the Premier League. The victory over Kiev-Basket gave Budivelnik the opportunity to become a champion without additional matches. The victory in this duel of Kiev-Basket meant that the playoffs would take place in the championship.

Ukrainian Cup
The Basketball Federation of Ukraine for the second time held the Cup of Ukraine. Matches took place in May after the end of the championship of Ukraine. The tournament, which took place in the hall of the Kiev NTU KPI, did not cause any hype - 200-300 spectators attended the semi-finals, and 500 during the final.
