Biography
Already from school, Mikhail became interested in theater, was engaged in a school theater group. Upon graduation, he enters the A.N. Ostrovsky Leningrad Theater Institute . At the end of the institute in 1961 he came to work in the troupe of the Leningrad Drama and Comedy Theater , but already in 1964 he moved to the Leningrad Komissarzhevskaya Theater , where he served until the end of his life.
Among his most famous performances: “Zykovs”, “Children of Vanyushin”, “Loving Lion”, “Seller of Rain”, “Boulevard Story” and others. Matveev was religious and believed without pretense. True faith led him to create the solo performance "The Life of Protopope Habakkuk", with which he fascinated the audience, playing with great dedication and persuasiveness. "The Life of Protopope Avvakum" was praised by the jury of the festival of solo performances in Bulgaria.
He played a lot in the movies. The most famous roles in the movie are Yegor Shelukhin (“Gypsy”, “The Return of Budulay”), Vasil Pereguda (“Red Diplomatic Couriers”), Zhivitsa (“Flame”), Louis (“Time Doesn't Wait”), Ignat Mazur (“ 72 degrees below zero ”), Victor (“ War under the Roofs ”), other roles.
