Sergei Vladimirovich Shantsev ( August 16, 1958 - January 24, 2000 ) - deputy commander of the reconnaissance group of the 700th separate special-purpose squad ( 2nd separate special-purpose brigade ), ensign ; Hero of Russia (2000).

Biography

Born in a Russian family; lived and studied in Vinnitsa .

Since 1981, he served in the 2nd Special Brigade of the Special Task Force of the GRU ( Pskov Region ). He was one of the best athletes, parachutists, made 1495 jumps, flew para- and hang-gliders .

From January 19 to April 26, 1995 he participated in combat operations in Grozny, in Assinovskaya, near Bamut; awarded the medal "For Courage".

Since August 1999, he participated in the second Chechen campaign. On January 24, 2000, being the senior head patrol on the reconnaissance exit, in the area of ​​the village of Roshni-Chu ( Urus-Martan district ), he found a group of militants, warned the commander and was the first to fight. He was seriously injured, died on the way to the hospital from blood loss. In combat, the militants suffered substantial losses; the reconnaissance group managed to thwart the gangsters' plans to capture Roshni-Chu and advance to Urus-Martan in order to create a corridor for the withdrawal of militants from the blocked Grozny.

By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of October 24, 2000, for courage and heroism shown during the performance of military duty in the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus region, Ensign Sergey Vladimirovich Shantsev was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously).

He was buried in the cemetery of the village Murovitsy ( Pskov district , Pskov region ).

Memory

  • Forever enrolled in the lists of the 1st company of the 700th separate special forces detachment of the 2nd Separate GRU Special Forces Brigade (Order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation of February 7, 2002).
  • On the house 147V in the village of Cherekha (Pskov region), in which S. Shantsev lived, a memorial plaque was installed
  • The name of S. Shantsev is immortalized on the monument to the killed reconnaissance soldiers in the territory of the 2nd separate brigade of the GRU special forces.
