After attending a sixth year at college in Luton, Arnold became a friend to director Danny Cannon. Cannon first created a short film where he asked Arnold to compose music. They both made their respected film their debuts, it is called "Young Americans". The following year, he created the music for the Stargate and The Last of the Dog Dogs films.
Arnold went on to create music for the next two films of Roland Emmerich , the director of Stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla , as well as four films directed by John Singleton . In addition, he composed music for various comedies, dramas, and for British television shows including Little Britain .
He is a member of the British Academy of Songbooks, Composers and Authors (BASCA).
James Bond
Arnold was a Bond fan from an early age and was also a fan of the James Bond composer, John Barry . In 1997, Arnold created Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold James Bond Project, an album with new versions of themes in various James Bond films. The album includes a variety of contemporary artists, including Jarvis Cocker , Chrissie Hynde , Propellerheads and Iggy Pop ; Bjork ’s version of “You Only Live Twice” was recorded but was not included on the album. John Barry, a composer of many of the themes in the album, praised Arnold’s interpretation of his work: “He was very honest to melodic and harmonious content, but he added a lot of other rhythmic freshness and few artists chosen to create songs. I think this is a great album. I am very honored. ”Barry contacted Barbara Broccoli, the producer of the upcoming movie“ Tomorrow Will Never Die ”, to recommend Arnold as a film composer.
Arnold was hired to write more music for the following four films: “ There Is Not A Whole World ,” “ Die, But Not Now ,” “ Casino Royale ” and “ Quantum of Solace ”. Arnold was not the composer of the 23rd James Bond film, “ 007: Skyfall Coordinates,” replaced by Thomas Newman . Arnold reported that Newman was chosen by the film director, Sam Mendes , because because of their work, Arnold would not be able to work with the composer at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics with Danny Boyle . However, a part of his music from the film “ Casino“ Piano ” ” was again used in the film “ 007: Coordinates of Skyfall ”.
Arnold also co-wrote the main songs of the films “And the Whole World Is Not Enough ” (“ The World Is Not Enough ” performed by Garbage ) and “Casino Royale” (“You Know My Name” played by Chris Cornell ).
Other works
He collaborated with such musical groups as Cast, The Cardigans , Kaiser Chiefs , Massive Attack and Pulp and solo artists like Natasha Bedingfield , Melanie Chisholm , Bjork , Chris Cornell , Shirley Manson , Mark Morriss and in 2009 produced the album Shirley Bassey “The Performance ".
