Windows Server 2012 R2 is a server-oriented system released on October 18, 2013. [1] Prior to the official release, the system was also introduced on June 3, 2013 at . [2] In accordance with the technical specifications of Windows Server 2012 R2, published May 31, 2013, 4 editions of the operating system were developed: Foundation, Essentials, Standard and Datacenter. [3] Like Windows Server 2012, the versions of Datacenter and Standard are identical, with the only difference being that the licensing system has been changed. The Essential edition is slightly different from the Datacenter and Standard editions, and the functional differences between them are slightly changed. [3]

Differences from Windows Server 2012
Microsoft has posted the following changes to Windows Server 2012 R2:
- Multilevel disk spaces: frequently used files are now located in fast memory [5]
- VHD Deduplication : Reduces storage space for VHD files with similar content by storing the file on the media only once
- Updated Windows PowerShell version 4, including the Desired State Configuration feature
- Native support for Microsoft Office 365 (as amended by Essentials)
- Interface changes from Windows 8.1 . [6]
- UEFI- based virtual machines
- Faster deployment of virtual machines (about 2 times) [7]
