A Brief History
The division was formed in April 1945 from Romanian prisoners of war. The division was commanded by General Mihai Laskar , knight of the Knight's Iron Cross with oak leaves, and the political instructor was Roman Walter . The division did not participate in the battles against the Germans, but together with the 1st Tudor Division, Vladimirirescu fought against the surrendered Romanian fascists.
In the postwar years, the 1st and 2nd Romanian divisions were equipped with tanks and vehicles, which made them the most powerful in the Romanian army. In 1947, they played a large role in the overthrow of the monarchy in the country and the formation of a socialist republic. The 2nd division itself was later transformed into a tank division, retaining the name. As of 1989, it included three tank regiments equipped with the latest Soviet and Romanian armored vehicles.
In 1994, the division was reorganized into the 6th Army Corps, and in 2000, into the brigade, which is the successor to the division.
