Vitinsky volost

Vitinsky volost ( Latvian. Vītiņu pagasts ) is one of the seven territorial units of the Autonomous Region . It is located on the Wadakst Plain of the Middle Latvian Lowland and partially in the region of the Lielauc Hills of the East Kurzeme Upland .

It borders with the city of Auce , Ukrskaya , Benskaya , Vetsautskaya and Lielautskaya volosts of its region, Vadakstsky , Yaunautsky and Zvardsky volosts of the Saldus region , as well as with the Nauyoji- Akmyansky rural headman of the Akmyansky district of Siauliai county of Lithuania .

The largest settlements of the Vitiny volost: Vitini (volost center), Bungas, Galati, Kokmuiza, Kevela, Putras.

The following rivers flow through the territory of the volost: Avikne, Ligotne, Melnupite, Juglin, Skujaine.

Highest point: 150 m

National composition: 61.5% are Latvians, 18.4% are Lithuanians, 9.9% are Russians, 5.3% are Belarusians, 1.8% are Gypsies, 1.6% are Ukrainians.

The parish is crossed by the Pure - Grivaysi highway and the Riga - Renge railway line (Avikne railway station).

History

In the XII century, in this territory, historically associated with the land of Dobene, zemgals lived. In the 13th century, it was conquered by the Livonian Order . In the XVI-XVIII centuries it was part of the Duchy of Courland . at the end of the XVIII century it was part of the Courland province of the Russian Empire .

In the XIX century, there were Dundursky, Galsky, Karl, Kevela, Vitinsky and Zushkin estates. 2 mills and a lime kiln worked.

After the Second World War , 3 collective farms were organized, later merged into the Ritausma collective farm and the Auce state farm, which were liquidated in the early 1990s.

In 1945, the Vitinsky Village Council was formed in the Vecauts parish of Jelgava county. In 1949, the volost division was abolished and the Vitinsky Village Council was part of the Aucky (1949-1959) and Dobele (after 1959) districts.

In 1958, the Ritausma collective farm of the Auza rural territory was attached to the Vitinsky village council. In 1961, 1965 and 1975, a number of territorial exchanges were conducted with some of the neighboring village councils [2] .

In 1990, the Vitinsky village council was reorganized into a parish. In 2009, at the end of the Latvian administrative-territorial reform, the Vitinsky parish became part of the Autonomous Region.

Today, there are several economically active enterprises in the volost, the Kapetsishi children's educational institution, the House of Culture, 2 libraries, a post office [3] .
