The Red Book of the Magadan Region is an annotated list of rare and endangered animals, plants and mushrooms of the Magadan Region . It was prepared by specialists from the Department of Natural Resources of the Administration of the Magadan Region and scientists from the Institute of Biological Problems of the North, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Biological and Soil Institute in Vladivostok, and the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology in Yekaterinburg. Edition
The first edition of the Red Book of the Magadan Region was released in 2008 with a circulation of 1000 copies. In this publication, the assessment of the status of species and populations is carried out by categories combining both the categories of the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the categories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature , which are correlated as follows:

The Red Book of the Magadan Region is an official publication intended both for specialists and for a wide range of readers. It contains information on 113 protected animal species (10 - mollusks, 20 - fish, 10 - insects, 2 - reptiles, 46 - birds, 25 - mammals), 108 plant species (95 - angiosperms, 1 - gymnosperms, 7 - fern-shaped, 2 - floating, 1 - horsetail, 1 - lichen) and 27 species of mushrooms. For each species, a brief description, information about the number and necessary security measures are given. The book is illustrated with drawings and maps of the areas of protected species. [2]
The predecessor of the Red Book of the Magadan Region can be partially attributed to the Red Book of the North of the Russian Far East, published in 1998.
