Water regime of plants - a set of processes of absorption, absorption and evaporation (release) of water by plants .
In relation to fluctuations in water supply and evaporation, two groups are distinguished among plants:
- Poikilohydric plants are plants in which the amount of water in the tissues is variable and depends on the environmental conditions of the environment. (For example, many mosses, algae, ferns)
- Homoyohydric - plants that are able to maintain the relative constancy of water in the tissues and little dependent on the humidity of the environment
In the process of evolution, plants acquired various adaptations related to the regulation of the water regime under the specific conditions of their habitat. According to these signs, they are assigned to different environmental groups:
- xerophytes
- succulents
- hygrophytes
- hydrophytes
- mesophytes
