World Water Day

World Water Day ( in other official UN languages : Arabic World Day for Water, Arabic اليوم العالمي للمياه, Spanish Día Mundial del Agua, Chinese 世界 水 日, French Journée mondiale de l'eau ) is celebrated annually 22 March . This World Day was declared by the UN General Assembly in 1993 (resolution No. A / RES / 47/193, World Water Day ).

The General Assembly resolution invited states to hold events on this day dedicated to the conservation and development of water resources . The General Assembly requested the UN Secretary-General to focus annual relevant UN events on one specific topic.

In 2003, the General Assembly, in its resolution No. A / RES / 58/217, declared the period 2005-2015, starting with the International Day of Water Resources on March 22, 2005, the International Decade for Action “Water for Life” . Every year this day is held under a specific motto (theme).
