- 1961 - graduated from Dagestan State University with a degree in Physics,
- 1967 - graduated from graduate school,
- 1970 - defended his thesis "Study of the breakdown of gases in strong magnetic fields",
- 1984 - defended his doctoral dissertation "Electrical breakdown of high pressure gases in strong magnetic fields."
Since 1964 he worked at Dagestan State University . He was a graduate student, associate professor, professor, head of department, vice-rector; From 1991 to 2007 he worked as the rector of the university.
Scientific Papers
Scientific research of O. A. Omarov is devoted to the circle of problems of gas breakdown in strong magnetic fields. These studies, begun by OA Omarov in Dagestan in the 1970s and continuing at the present time, have made a significant contribution both to the construction of a general concept of electric breakdown of gases and to the establishment of breakdown mechanisms in strong longitudinal magnetic fields. They were included in the Coordination Plans of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and in the comprehensive territorial and sectoral program for intensifying the economy of Dagestan [1] .
Omar Alievich Omarov was engaged in scientific guidance, under which a large amount of research was carried out on the dynamics of the formation of a discharge for various forms of its course:
- Townsend
- streamer
- volume.
Also, a technique was developed and equipment was created for the study of electrical and optical, including spectral, discharge characteristics during breakdown; time resolution - up to several nanoseconds.
For the first time, a series of laws were discovered in the laboratory of OA Omarov, revealing a new plasma breakdown mechanism, and other important parameters and characteristics of this phenomenon were established [1] .
.
The main research results of O. A. Omarov are published in the journals ZhTF, “Letters to ZhTF”, “Plasma Physics”, “Thermophysics of High Temperatures”, “Measuring Technique”, “Journal of Applied Spectroscopy”, interuniversity collection “Gas Discharge Physics”, published in the form of a preprint by the Lebedev Physical Institute (1997, 1984). O. A. Omarov is the author of 120 scientific and scientific-methodological works, including 10 patents for inventions and more than 10 study guides [1] .

With his active participation and leadership, All-Union conferences on gas discharge physics (Makhachkala, 1982 and 1986) were prepared and held on the basis of the Physics Department of DGU I and IV [1] .
O. A. Omarov is also:
- Chairman of the Doctoral Specialized Council;
- Academician of the Russian Academy of Education
- Academician of the Academy of Technological Sciences of the Russian Federation;
- corresponding member of the International Academy of Higher Education Sciences;
- Soros professor.
