Biography

In 2003-2004, he became one of the founders of The Pirate Bay, the largest torrent tracker. In 2009, in the trial of the Pirate Bay case, he was sentenced to a year in prison and a heavy fine. [one]

He helped Wikileaks , participated in the release of a video of the Baghdad airstrike .

In August 2012, he was arrested in Cambodia and deported to Sweden. Upon his return to Sweden, he was charged with participation in a hacker attack in 2010. According to the prosecution, Gottfried participated in the hacking of Logica, an IT company that provided services to the Swedish tax service, and the theft of a large number of personal identification numbers. [2] On June 20, 2013, he was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. [3]

In November 2013, it was announced that on November 27, 2013, the imprisoned Svartholm would be extradited to Denmark in connection with the charge of breaking into Danish police registers. [four]

Svartholm was named one of the defendants in eight lawsuits about the distribution of films and TV shows on the websites Rutor.org and Kinozal.tv, considered in the Moscow City Court . The court decision states that the PRQ and the second defendant (in the decision text it is designated only as “Gottfried S.”) are the owners of the Rutor.org domain. This follows from the plaintiff's Whois public network protocol data. As of November 2013, Whois had indeed indicated that Rutor.org is registered to Gottfried Swarthholm and PRQ. Owners of Kinozal.tv are not listed in the open data. Representatives of the defendant did not appear at the meeting, evidence of lack of guilt was not presented, it follows from the decision of the Moscow City Court, which obliged to stop distributing the series, pay the state fee and publish the verdict on its website. [five]

In late October 2014, a Danish court issued a verdict in the case of hacking various Danish government data, in particular, access to information about tax officials and the Danish police. Gottfried was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, his friend Peter (accused of complicity in the crime) did not receive a sentence, since he had already spent 17 months in pre-trial detention. [6] [7] Gottfried did not agree with the court decision and intends to appeal it [8] .

There is information that Gottfried had or is addicted to drugs. This was evidenced by people from his environment and even his girlfriend [9] .
