David Michaud ( born David Michôd ; born November 30, 1972 , Sydney ) is an Australian film director , screenwriter , actor and producer . Best known as the director of the films “ Animal Kingdom ” (2010) and “ Rover ” (2014).

Biography

David Michaud was born November 30, 1972 in Sydney . After graduating from Sydney High School ( English Sydney Grammar School ) he moved to Melbourne and began to study at the University of Melbourne and film school. In the movie, Michaud came as a screenwriter and actor in the short film "Noise" in 2000. Since then, Michaud began to participate in various projects as an actor , director and screenwriter. [1] In 2008, at the Sundance Film Festival and at the Berlin International Film Festival , David Michaud's short film “The Dwarf Dutch Rabbit” was shown ( Eng. Netherland Dwarf ), which was well received by critics [2] [3] .

Feature films

Animal Kingdom

The director was in the Blue-Tongue Films film team, thanks to which, in 2009, the first full-length picture by Michaud - “The Kingdom of the Animals ” is released. This is a criminal drama about the war of underground Melbourne factions and the police. At the Sundance Film Festival, the film won a prize in the category "Best Drama in World Cinema" [4] [5] .

Hasher

In 2010, Michaud, as a screenwriter , participated in the creation of Spencer Sasser's " Hesher " film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman in the title role [6] .

Rover

On January 29, 2013 in southern Australia, the director began filming the movie The Rover with Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson in the lead roles [7] [8] . Filming ended March 16, 2013 [9] [10] . The film premiered on May 18, 2014 as part of the out-of-competition program of the 40th Cannes Film Festival . [11] [12] . The film was released in limited release in New York and Los Angeles on June 13, 2014; wide distribution in the United States began on June 20, 2014 [13] [14] [15] .

War Machine

April 14, 2014 it became known that Michaud will write a script and become the director of the film "Operators", based on the book of the same name by Michael Hastings . The producers of the film starring Brad Pitt were Plan B Entertainment , New Regency and RatPac Entertainment [16] [17] . Subsequently, the film was called Machine of War . In March 2017, Netflix released a teaser trailer in which Brad Pitt appeared in the veiled role of General Stanley McChrystal . In 2010, Hasting published an article in the magazine in Rolling Stone magazine on the friction between Macrystal and then-President Barack Obama, which led to the resignation of McChrystal. [18]

King

In 2013, it became known that Joel Edgerton and Michaud commissioned Warner Bros. Pictures wrote an adapted script based on Shakespeare’s plays “ Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2 ” and “ Henry V ” [19] . In February 2018, it was announced that the title role in the film “ The King ” would be played by Timote Chalame [20] . Filming began on June 1, 2018 in London [21] . The film will premiere on Netflix .
