Biography

Maria Semyonovna Polivanova was born in the village of Naryshkino, now in the Alexinsky district of the Tula region, into a working-class family. Russian .

Secondary education. She worked at the Orgaviaprom Research Institute (now the National Institute of Aviation Technologies , NIAT) in Moscow.

With the beginning of World War II, she entered sniper courses. Since October 1941, as part of the 3rd Moscow Communist Division, participated in the battle of Moscow . Since January 1942, in the 528th Infantry Regiment ( 130th Infantry Division , 1st Attack Army , North-Western Front ). During the service, she destroyed several dozen enemy soldiers and officers, taught sniper art to fighters of a sniper platoon.

On August 14, 1942, near the village of Sutoki, Parfinsky District, Novgorod Region, together with her friend Natalya Kovshova she fought with the enemy. The battle was fought to the last bullet. With the last grenades, the girls blew themselves up together with the enemy soldiers surrounding them [1] .

She was buried in the village of Korovitchino, Starorussky District, Novgorod Region [2] .

The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded posthumously on February 14, 1943 [3] .
