History
Opened September 1, 1863. The course of study was 7 classes.
The first set consisted of 40 students enrolled in grades I – IV. On January 1, 1868, 143 students of various faiths and classes studied at the gymnasium, 161 students a year later. The staff of gymnasium teachers consisted of 29 people.
Education was paid - 250 rubles per year for pupils with boarding school, 200 rubles - half board (for 1910). Teaching foreign languages and dancing was paid separately. Since 1886 there was a scholarship established by A.M. Best
The first funds for the maintenance of the gymnasium came from the Siberian Public Bank, founded by entrepreneurs Popovs. Later, funding was provided from the local budget.
The gymnasium was located in the house of V. Sokolova at the corner of the modern Batenkov lane and the embankment of the Ushayka river (according to other sources [1] - in the house of F. S. Pastukhova, Embankment of the Ushayka river , 8). In subsequent years, various rooms were allocated for classes in Tomsk; in 1897, a construction was constructed specifically for the gymnasium according to the project of P.F. Fedorovsky in Dukhovskiy Lane (now Sovpartshkolny Lane ).
In 1868, Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich visited the gymnasium.
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, up to 900 students studied at the gymnasium. At the beginning of the 20th century, the 8th - pedagogical class was opened (it trained elementary school teachers).
The trustees of the gymnasium were G. M. Golovanov and others.
In 1918, it was transformed into the city gymnasium No. 3, since 1920 - the secondary school No. 3. It operates to the present.
