Biography

Gerold Kartashov was born on March 26, 1924 in Tomsk . He was left without parents early, grew up in an orphanage, graduated from seven classes of the school, after which he worked as a locksmith apprentice, a mechanic at the Bolshevik plant in Novosibirsk . In 1941, Kartashov graduated from the factory apprenticeship school at the Chkalov aircraft plant, after which he worked as a fitter at the Novokuznetsk Engineering Plant. In 1942, Kartashov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since October of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the South-West , Don , Stepnoy , 3rd , 2nd and 1st Ukrainian fronts. By August 1944, the guard sergeant Gerold Kartashov was the gunner of the 66th guards separate anti-tank fighter division of the 58th guards rifle division of the 5th guards army of the 1st Ukrainian Front. Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .

On August 11–12, during the battles for the expansion of the Sandomierz bridgehead near the settlement of Oblekon south-west of Stashuv, Kartashov repelled German counterattacks. For August 11, he personally put down the fire of 5 machine guns, destroyed 2 anti-tank artillery pieces and about 35 enemy soldiers and officers. On August 12, Kartashov knocked out 3 tanks. When his weapon failed, Kartashov organized a defense, repelling the German counterattack. In that battle, Kartashov and his comrades destroyed 27 German soldiers and officers. In battle, he was injured, but continued to fight until he lost consciousness. He was sent to the hospital [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944 for sergeant Gerold Kartashov’s exemplary performance of command missions of the command at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown by the guard, he was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 4288 [1] .

In December 1945, the rank of guard of the foreman Kartashov was demobilized. Since 1959 he lived in Mezhdurechensk , worked as the head of the building materials department in the trust. He died in a car accident on July 31, 1992, was buried in Mezhdurechensk [1] .

He was also awarded the orders of the Red Banner , World War I 1st degree, Red Star , Glory 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .

Streets in Tomsk and Mezhdurechensk are named after Kartashov [1] .
