History

January 28, 1986 Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the RSFSR I.F. Obraztsov signed an order to establish this museum. Its creation was preceded by a large expeditionary work of teachers and employees of the department and laboratory of archeology, as well as students who, since 1974, explored most areas of the mountain and steppe Altai, excavated many interesting archaeological sites and collected huge archaeological material that formed the basis of the museum's exposition. Since 1978, after the creation of the “Laboratory of Archeology, Ethnography, and the History of Altai”, work to increase the museum’s funds has become more focused.
An important role in the formation of the museum was played by the exhibition of archaeological monuments of Altai, dedicated to the arrival of Japanese archaeologists in 1984. To accommodate it, the premises of the Museum of the History of Education in Altai with the showcases inside it were provided.
The first stage in the formation of the museum was the deployment (opening) of an archaeological exhibition for the arrival of a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Heydar Aliyevich Aliyev . For the university, this visit was of great importance, because Vasily Ivanovich Neverov acted as a confidant of Heydar Aliyev. In 1985, under the leadership of Yuri Fedorovich Kiryushin , active work began on creating an exposition of the museum.

In this work, Yuri Fedorovich attracted all the employees of the archeology laboratory, to whom he set a specific task - to select the most vivid, interesting finds among the mass archaeological material that had been accumulated by that time. Archaeologists posted unique material that covered almost all archaeological cultures.

The first tour of the museum was conducted by Yu.F. Kiryushin, accompanied by the rector of ASU V.I. Neverov, the head of the department of Russian history A.P. Borodavkin, the secretary of the party committee A.P. Vlasov, the secretary of the regional committee A.N. Nevsky. Heydar Alievich, as a true historian, really liked the fact that such unique archaeological material was collected by the staff of the archeology laboratory.
Subsequently, employees began to give thematic lectures and tours of the museum. The second stage of the development of the museum begins in the fall of 1985, when G.L. After graduation, Nekhvedavichyus goes to work in a museum, during which he proceeds to some improvement of the exposition. At this time, Vasily Ivanovich Neverov, together with the administration, prepared and sent to the Ministry a package of documents substantiating the need to open a museum of archeology with an appropriate staffing table.
The museum was officially opened by order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Education of the RSFSR I.F. Obraztsov (No. 74 dated 01/28/1986) "in order to further improve the organization of the educational process at the Altai University" and received the official name "Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of Altai".
