Biography
Ivan Kitsenko was born on May 20, 1920 in the village of Galitsino (now the Kochubeyevsky district of the Stavropol Territory ). He graduated from seven classes of the school. In 1937, Kitsenko was called up for service in the Navy of the USSR . In 1938, he graduated from the Yeisk Naval Aviation School. Since 1941 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By October 1944, the Guard Senior Lieutenant Ivan Kitsenko commanded the link of the 5th Guards mine and torpedo air regiment of the 2nd Guards mine and torpedo air division of the Air Force of the Black Sea Fleet . By that time, he had made 217 sorties to bombard enemy troops, reconnaissance, mine operations, and delivering cargo to partisans in the Crimea . As a result of his actions, 6 German transports were sunk, 1 tanker, 1 landing barge, 1 submarine damaged [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 6, 1945, for the "exemplary fulfillment of the command assignments for the destruction of enemy manpower and equipment and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard, senior lieutenant Ivan Kitsenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal " Golden Star ” under the number 3808 [1] .
After the war, Kitsenko continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1954, with the rank of captain, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Kiev . He died on June 8, 1981, was buried at the Lukyanovsky military cemetery in Kiev [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
