Bishop Sergius II - Bishop of the Russian Church , Bishop of Ryazan and Murom (1517-1521)
Biography
Since 1509 - Archimandrite Spaso-Androniyev monastery in Moscow .
On February 12, 1517, he was consecrated Bishop of Ryazan and Murom ; ordination headed Metropolitan Barlaam .
Under the bishop of Sergius in 1521, the Ryazan principality loses its independence and joins Moscow. In Ryazan, the governor is sent - the famous suburban Khabar Simsky . The last Prince of Ryazan, Ivan Ivanovich, stood for the independence of the principality, setting up his boyars against Moscow, and conspired with the Crimean khan Magmet-Giray .
Caused by cunning to Moscow , Ivan Ivanovich was taken into custody. Later, he fled to Lithuania , where his tracks are lost.
When the Crimean Tatars attacked in 1521, Khabar Simsky gathered the Ryazan boyars to Bishop Sergius and told him to swear allegiance to the Grand Duke of Moscow on the cross.
The Ryazan pulpit was headed until 1521, but was not buried in Ryazan. The exact date of death and burial sites are unknown.
