Orsha Flax Mill

“Orsha Flax Mill” is the only company in the country of Belarus [1] and the largest enterprise in the CIS [2] and Europe to produce linen fabrics and began its history with a small flax comb factory, which was commissioned in December 1930.

Content

History

The start of construction and further development of the enterprise was facilitated by the availability of its own raw material base in the republic. The plant project was developed in 1928-1930 by architects A. S. Fisenko and I. S. Nikolaev [3] [4] .

In 1937, spinning, weaving and finishing production workshops and auxiliary services of the first factory of the plant were built.

In 1961, the linen, spinning, weaving, and linen production of the second factory of the plant producing household linen fabrics was commissioned.

In 1972, the operating third factory of the plant was commissioned, including flossing, spinning and weaving with the release of thin household fabrics. Since that period, three factories operated at the mill, each of which represented a separate operating textile mill. In 1973, the Dnepr flax spinning mill for the production of carpet yarn became a part of the enterprise.

 
Latest equipment

Today, the territory of the flax mill occupies 47 hectares; in 2008, the plant provided 8% of the global linen fabric market [5] . 70% of flax mill products are exported [6] , product consumers represent 50 different countries [7] . More than five thousand workers are employed in production, 25 thousand tons of flax fiber are processed per year [8] .

Throughout the activities of the plant, there has been a change and improvement of its management structure. The company has 5 factories:

  • 1st - for the production of container fabrics from short flax fiber
  • 2nd and 3rd - for the production of yarn and austerity from long flax fiber
  • finishing factory - for the production of finished household fabrics
  • and own sewing factory.

All factories include conjoined and located on a single production facilities linen, spinning, weaving, and finishing industries. Status of the enterprise - Republican Unitary Production and Trade Enterprise. Orsha Flax Mill is a part of the Belarusian State Concern for the Production and Sale of Light Industry Goods of the Republic of Belarus (Bellegprom Concern). The enterprise is managed by the general director.

The history of the Orsha Flax Mill is connected with the names of its first directors - Lipchuk, Negnevitsky, Kozelev, Roditelev.

  • In May 1941, the plant was headed by Georgy Vasilyevich Semenov , who in total led the enterprise for 30 years (excluding the period 1955-1956, when he was deputy minister of textile industry of the BSSR).
  • Since August 10, 1972, the director of the Orsha Order of Lenin Flax Mill, and since February 12, 1976, the general director was Vladimir Petrovich Lakhtin.
  • From October 1976 to March 1988, the general director of the enterprise was Vasily Yakovlevich Melnikov.
  • From 1988 to 1996, the flax mill was headed by Georgy Georgievich Kokoreko.
  • From April 19, 1996 to May 21, 2007, the general director of the enterprise was Valery Konstantinovich Shatkov.
  • In the period from May 22, 2007 to June 5, 2009, the company was headed by Viktor Vasilievich Gavrilenko.
  • June 5, 2009 Nesterenko Vladimir Vasilyevich was appointed General Director.

Chronicle of

  • 1930 - the first products were launched at the newly built flax factory.
  • May 1941 - the enterprise was headed by Georgy Vasilyevich Semenov , the future Hero of Socialist Labor, Honorary Citizen of Orsha.
  • June 1, 1966 - “Orsha Flax Mill” was awarded the country's highest award - the Order of Lenin .
  • 1998 - the flax mill was recognized as the winner of the contest "Best Exporter of the Republic of Belarus".
  • 2002 - the flax mill was awarded the diploma “Best Exporter of the Year”. The team was also awarded the same award in 2003. Export deliveries reached 83.4 percent of the total output of household fabrics.
  • March 2012 - the flax mill received an international certificate of compliance with the environmental requirements of the Oeko-Tex Standart 100 standard for its products.
  • 2013 - the company was recognized as the winner of the competition for the Prize of the Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in the field of quality in 2012.
