Panchanan Mageshwari ( Eng. Panchanan Maheshwari ; November 9, 1904 , Jaipur - May 18, 1966 , Delhi ) - Indian biologist, botanist.

Born in the family of a medical college superintendent, he was the only child in the family who lived to adulthood. He became interested in botany as a child, despite his father's desire to make him a doctor. He graduated from Ivinga Christian College in Allahabad, then studied at the universities of this city, Agra and Lucknow [1] .
In 1939 he became a professor at Dhaka University, in 1945 he left for two years to work at Harvard University , in 1949 he took a professorship in Delhi. He became the founder of the International Society of Plant Morphologists, as well as the journal "Phytomorphology", created by him in 1951. He was elected a foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , and in 1965 became a member of the Royal Society of London .
His main scientific works are devoted to experimental embryology, plant tissue culture and comparative embryology of angiosperms and gymnosperms: in particular, he studied simultaneously representatives of 82 plant families. He also studied the history of botany in India. His most famous work is Embryology of Parasitic Plants, translated into Russian.
