Alberto Mendez ( Spanish Alberto Méndez ; August 27, 1941 , Madrid - December 30, 2004 ) - Spanish writer , best known for his collection of stories "Blind Sunflowers." Winner of the Spanish National Prize for literature in 2005 (awarded posthumously).

Biography
The son of translator and poet José Mendez Herrera, Alberto Mendez spent his childhood in Madrid. He studied in Rome , studied philosophy and literature at the Complutense University in Madrid. A supporter of leftist views, until 1982 was a member of the Spanish Communist Party . Worked in national and international publishing houses.
The last of the four works in the book "Blind Sunflowers", which gave the title to the publication, was filmed in 2008 under the same name by director José Luis Cuarda .
