The village is located to the east of the federal highway P104 on the Rybinsk - Poshekhonye section , on the right bank of the Volya River. Upstream, the Vola River flows through forest and uninhabited areas. To the north-west of Pogorelovo directly on the highway is the village of Lyaga . On the left bank of the Will, in the direction of Rybinsk, is the large village of Milyushino . Down the river Volya to the west of the highway, at the mouth of the Volia river stands the village of Kostino . On the topographic maps on the left bank of the Volya River, opposite the Bolshoi Pogarevo village, is the village of Maloye Pogorelovo, which is absent in modern documents [2] .
The village of Bolshoye Pogorelye and the village of Lesser Pogorelye are indicated on the plan of the General Survey of Rybinsk district in 1792
Hero of the Soviet Union , pilot Anatoly Vasilyevich Smirnov was born in the village [3] .
As of January 1, 2007, there were 66 permanent residents in the village [4] . The post office, located in Milyushino, serves 66 houses in the village of Bolshoe Pogorelovo [5] .
