Boxing competitions at the 1956 Summer Olympics were held from November 23 to December 1 in Melbourne . 10 sets of awards were played - 10 weight categories. In one weight category from one country only one athlete could compete. Traditionally, in each weight category, bronze medals were awarded to both boxers who lost in the semifinals. The competition was attended by 161 fighters from 34 countries of the world.
