Biography
Born in Kiev in the family of a professor at the conservatory [1] . At the age of 17, after graduating from school, he moved to Poland among the returnees. He graduated from the University of Warsaw, during the Nazi occupation of Poland participated in the system of secret universities [2] .
In 1949-1954 he was a professor at the Warsaw Agricultural University, then became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the early 1950s, Lysenkoism (the successes of Soviet biology) was actively propagated in Poland [3] . In 1982 he was elected a foreign member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (since 1991 - the Russian Academy of Sciences) [4] . He also headed the School Reform Department of the Ministry of Education of Poland for some time [5] . Since the 1970s He was the chairman of the editorial board of the yearbook "Człowiek i nauka" (the Polish counterpart of the international science-fiction yearbook " Science and Humanity ").
His main scientific works are devoted to the economic value, biological role and evolution of parasites.
