Village History

The village was granted in 1581 by Ivan the Terrible to the boyar Ivan Petrovich Shuisky along with other estates for the defense of Pskov from the troops of Stefan Batory - apparently, in honor of Shuisky, the village got its name. Subsequently, Shuisky was accused of conspiring against Boris Godunov, exiled to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, tonsured a monk forcibly, and was strangled with smoke in his own cell on November 16, 1588. The church in the village, on the site of the present, has existed since pre-Mongol times. The hill below it is believed to be of ancient bulk origin. During the Time of Troubles, the village and the church were ravaged. In 1617, a wooden church was built in the name of Kosma and Damian with the aisles of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and Leonty of Rostov, which stood for nearly two hundred years.

The village has a cross-shaped layout. Previously, there was a school in it. There were once more than 20 ponds and 600 houses in the village, now only one pond and no more than three residential houses have been preserved.

Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God

In 1802, a new stone church was consecrated, built at the expense of parishioners and landowners of the Arnautovs, in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God with the chapels of Cosmas and Damian and Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church has an interesting architectural layout - in the form of a circle. Such a plan of the church is very rare - in the Yaroslavl region the only one. A hundred years later, at the beginning of the 20th century, a renewal was made in the church - the painting was updated, now almost lost. The local landowners Arnautovs were buried in the cemetery, several of their tombstones were preserved. [2] The church was closed in the early 60s of the XX century. From it to the museum to them. Andrei Rublev kept the Royal Gates of 1617.

At the end of 1998, the restoration of the temple began [3] .

In 1860, the parish of the church in Ivankovo consisted of 15 villages.
