The bridge was built to link the Marina Center and the financial district of Shenton-Wei [1] . Construction began in 1994 and was completed in March 1997. [1] The main contractor was Obayashi Corporation . After construction, the bridge blocked the view of Merlion from the side of Marina Bay , which required the transfer of the statue from one side of the road to the other [2] .
Temporary closures
The bridge offers a beautiful view of Marina South and the entire Marina Bay . Because of this, the bridge can be closed in special cases when pedestrians massively go to the bridge to watch the festive fireworks. For a better impression on the time of the fireworks on the bridge, street lighting is turned off.
The bridge is part of the Singapore Formula 1 race track . The debut of the track took place on September 28, 2008. For racing, the bridge is also closed to normal traffic.
