History
The cultural institution "The Royal Castle on Wawel - the State Assembly of Art" was established in 1945. Currently, the organization operates on the basis of the Charter registered by the Ministry of Culture (Dz.Urz.MKiDN nr 4 poz.7 from 2000).
“The Wawel Royal Castle - State Art Collection” is registered in the register of National Cultural Institutions (No. 21/92) and the State Register of Museums (No. 16/98).
Activities
As stated in chapter No. 1 of the Charter, the organization’s goal is to preserve the Royal Castle on Wawel, which is a historical monument of the highest rank, religious and cultural heritage of the Polish people, an element of world heritage. The organization seeks to reproduce the historical significance of Wawel in various aspects, which is to include it in the modern life of Polish society. These goals are achieved using the following tools:
- collection and preservation of carefully selected works of art and historical monuments;
- activities for the conservation and conservation of selected works of art and monuments;
- distribution of information about Wawel in Poland and abroad;
- organization and holding of scientific symposia and conferences;
- publishing, educational and informational activities;
- maintaining in good condition the cultural monuments under the control of the organization.
