Ya'fur ( Arabic. يعفور - "gazelle") is the nickname of the legendary donkey belonging to the Muslim prophet Muhammad .
History
The donkey of Mohammed is a character in several Arab theological works of dubious authority and therefore remains a subject of controversy among Muslims for some time. The historian at-Tabari donor Yafur is mentioned as part of the dowry sent to Muhammad by the ruler of Egypt, Mukaukis, along with Maria Koptskaya . In the apocryphal legends that formed around Yafur, he acquired a genealogical relationship with all the donkeys of the prophets mentioned in the Bible. The donkey, which belonged to Muhammad, was also considered a descendant of the donkey of Christ, on which he entered Jerusalem , and a descendant of the speaking donkey of the prophet Balaam from the Old Testament ( 2:16 ). In the legends of Yafur, he appears as the last talking donkey.
In further history, the image of the donkey Yafur acquired a symbolic meaning and, possibly, was sometimes used as a male name. So a similar name found in the founder of the Yemeni dynasty Yafurid (867-997), and in Syria, near Damascus, you can find a small city, called Yafur .
