Story
The film's hero, the 40-year-old Croatian Divko, returns to his hometown in Bosnia from Germany, where he fled half his life from socialist Yugoslavia to evade military conscription. Now he got rich, got a luxurious Mercedes and a young mistress Azra. Divco’s goal is to file a divorce from his wife, with whom he has not maintained contact since his flight, to return his family home and start a new life with Azra. He brings with him a black cat, whom he considers his talisman (after finding the cat, his life went uphill). The new mayor of the city, a Croatian nationalist and his longtime friend, helps him return his house to property, and his ex-wife Lucia and his son Martin are thrown out into the street (later they are settled in a shabby apartment). The mayor is actively redistributing property, and his thugs beat up the former communist mayor when he tries to protest.
However, further everything does not go the way Divco intended (or promised). His fatherly feelings for Martin wake up, which he is trying to attract to his side. Azra, in turn, is not at all happy with Divco's nostalgia for his former family. A romance is struck between her and Martin. Finally, Martin and Lucia, although they are Croats, have a lot of friends among former communist functionaries and military Serbs (including a friend of Lucius, captain of the Yugoslav army). The conflict over property in the city will inevitably lead to armed confrontation between the mayor's supporters (Croatian nationalists) and the military (most of whom are Serbs), and Martin must choose which side he is on.
The Circus Colombia is the name of a suburban amusement park where the reconciliation of Divco and Lucia takes place, while the rest of the family members are trying to escape from the impending war in Germany.
