Biography

From an old noble family . Landowner of the Smolensk province (patrimonial 2,600 acres , including at the village of Klimov, Duhovschinsky district , and 3,260 acres acquired).

The son of a titular adviser Platon Nikolayevich Engelhardt (1823-1881). The nephew of publicist A.N. Engelhardt . The elder brother Alexander is a statesman, Saratov governor. Uncle - Alexander Nikolaevich , Russian publicist, populist and agrochemist . Cousins Mikhail Alexandrovich and Nikolai Alexandrovich .

He graduated from the 2nd St. Petersburg Gymnasium (1871) and the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg University with a degree of candidate rights (1875).

He participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 , serving in the administration of military communications in the postal department.

After the war he returned to his native province and devoted himself to the public service of the elections. He consisted of a justice of the peace (1881–1882), was elected the vowel of the Smolensk Provincial Zemstvo Assembly (1880–1915), an indispensable member of the Smolensk Provincial Presence (from 1884), and the Dukhovschinsky district leader of the nobility (1886-1917).

Consisted of the chairman of the Dukhovshchinsky school council, the trustee of the council of the Dukhovshchinsky girls’ gymnasium and the vice president and honorary member of the Smolensk society of agriculture. He rose to the rank of Actual State Councilor (1901). In November 1904 he participated in the congress of zemstvo leaders in St. Petersburg and signed the resolution adopted by the congress.

In 1906 he was elected a member of the State Council from the Smolensk Zemstvo (re-elected in 1909 and 1912). Adjacent to the progressive (academic) group.

He died of typhus in 1920 in Yekaterinodar.

Family

He was married to Anna Mikhailovna Stankovskaya. Their kids:

  • Boris (1889-1941), a graduate of the Imperial College of Law . Captain of the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment, a hero of the First World War . Member of the White movement. In exile in Estonia, an active participant in the ROVS .
  • Igor (1897 (?) - 1916), an officer, a participant in the First World War, died on the German front.
  • Yuri (d. 1920), staff captain of the Life Guards of Her Majesty's Cuirassier Regiment, participant in the White Movement as part of the All-Union Union of Liberal Democratic Forces and the Russian Army. He was killed on August 19, 1920 during the Ulagaevsky landing in the Kuban .
  • Vera (d. 1920), sister of mercy , in the Volunteer Army, participant in the 1st Kuban and Bredovsky campaigns. She was evacuated to Yugoslavia, then returned to the Crimea, killed during the Ulagaevsky landing.
  • Tatyana (d. 1973), in the marriage of Zaitsev. Sister of Mercy, in the Volunteer Army, participant in the 1st Kuban campaign. In exile in France.
  • Nina (1903-1982), the fourth wife of the scientist A. L. Chizhevsky . In her youth she was repressed and sent to the Solovetsky camp , then she was exiled in Kazakhstan, where she met A. L. Chizhevsky and married him. From 1958 to 1982 she lived in Moscow, was engaged in the publication and propaganda of the works of Chizhevsky. She was buried with her husband at the Pyatnitsky cemetery in Moscow .
