Angelino Alfano ( Italian: Angelino Alfano ; born October 31, 1970 , Agrigento ) - Italian politician, Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2016 , in 2013-2014 also served as Deputy Prime Minister. From 2008 to 2011, he was Minister of Justice in the fourth office of Berlusconi . Content
Early Period
His father, Angelo Alfano, was a lawyer and former local politician who also served as deputy mayor of Agrigento.
After receiving a law degree from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and a doctorate in corporate law from the University of Palermo , Angelino Alfano began his political career with the Christian Democratic Party.
Political career
In 1994, he joined Forward Italy , the new center-right party founded by Silvio Berlusconi, and was elected to the Provincial Council of Agrigento. In 1996, Alfano was the youngest member elected to the Sicilian Regional Assembly. In 2001, he became a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, after the victory of the center-right coalition " House of Freedom " led by Berlusconi in 2001 in the general election. From 2005 to 2008, he also served as Regional Coordinator in Sicily from the Forward Italy Party.
Minister of Justice
In the 2008 elections , which won the center-right coalition led by Berlusconi, Alfano was again elected to parliament. In May 2008, at the age of 37, he became the youngest Minister of Justice in the history of the Italian Republic.
Minister of the Interior
On April 28, 2013, he began working as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior in Letta’s office.
On February 21, 2014, the Renzi government was formed, in which Alfano retained only the portfolio of the Minister of the Interior.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
On December 12, 2016, the Gentiloni government was formed, in which Alfano was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy.
On March 18, 2017, he led the new party, , which broke away from the NPC, and remained in the same position in the government [3] .
On December 6, 2017, Alfano announced that he did not intend to stand for election in the next parliamentary election [4] . On December 13, a split occurred in the People’s Alternative: Beatrice Lorenzin and her supporters joined the center-left coalition led by the Democratic Party Matteo Renzi , and Maurizio Lupi led his like-minded people to the center-right Silvio Berlusconi [5] .
