History
The club was created in 1891 as a football team. The team was named "English High School" ( English High School , "English Gymnasium") in honor of the school in which the players studied. In 1901, the club adopted its current name, as many athletes had already completed their studies at school.
The football team became the most successful in the country in the amateur period . Alumni won 10 league titles over 14 seasons. The team was one of the first to receive great status [1] . In 1908, the team was reorganized, as a result, sections for other sports appeared. This step was an attempt to save the club, which was in poverty by then, since many teams - Lomas, Belgrano , Kilmes - had already implemented similar projects. However, in 1911 the team held the last match, and on April 24, 1913 it was finally abolished.
In 1951, a group of graduates of the English gymnasium received permission to create a rugby team with the name “Alumni”. The head of the meeting, which approved the application, was Carlos Bowers, the person who proposed the name “Alumni” half a century ago [2] . Rugby players showed good results, and in 1960 became the best in the third division of the Buenos Aires League. Then the team entered the top division and became the champion in 1989. One of the team’s principal rivals is the Belgrano club.
Now the team has five titles of the capital's champion and a victory in the national competition Nacional de Clubges in 2002.
