Biography

The beginning of the athlete’s sports career was 1951. The 14-year-old Yura first came to the aircraft modeling club at the House of Pioneers and Schoolchildren of the Leningrad District of Moscow and began to regularly attend classes where he mastered the basics of aircraft modeling. Air models conquered the young man and became part of his life for many years.

In 1954 he entered the Moscow Aviation Institute named after S. Ordzhonikidze; a freshman with his head went into the development of one of the most difficult classes in cordless aircraft modeling - the class of aerobatic cordless models F2B (according to the FAI classification). At the same time, Yuri Sirotkin simultaneously masters another class of models - the class of cord racing models. Seven years after the start of aircraft modeling sports, in 1958, Yuri Sirotkin, who at that time was a fourth-year student at the Moscow Aviation Institute, was awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR.

In 1960, Yuri Alexandrovich, having defended his diploma, graduated from high school, works at the Moscow Institute of Technical Cybernetics, where he becomes a leading engineer.

In 1962, the most important event for all Cordoba aircraft modellers of the world took place: in the USSR, in Kiev (at the cordon fields of Trukhanov Island on the Dnieper), the World Championship in model aircraft sports (cord models) was held. At the Championship Sirotkin acted as a pilot in the same crew with the athlete Boris Dmitrievich Shkursky (mechanic). Friends performed in the class of racing cordless models F2C. The crew of Sirotsky - Shkursky showed the best time at a distance of 10 km: 4 minutes 38 seconds, and first place. The silver medalists in the individual competition in this class were also athletes from the USSR: Zhelman and Radchenko. Their best time at a distance of 10 km is 4 minutes 41 seconds. The World Cup bronze medals were received by the crew from Hungary Purgai-Katon, the fourth by the crew from Sweden Bjerk-Rosenlund, and the fifth by the crew from Germany Ul-Ilg.

In the team championship, athletes from the USSR also became champions. The gold medal for the victory in the team championship was the second award of Yuri Sirotkin in those competitions.

Sirotkin received his third gold medal from the world champion for winning the 1964 World Model Air Sport Championship in Hungary, in the class of aerobatic cordless models F2B.

In subsequent years, Yuri Sirotkin was a coach of the USSR national team in aircraft modeling sports.
