Gaynan Rakhmatovich Saydzhuzhin ( Tat. Gaynan Rәkhmәtulla лыlu Sәethuҗҗin ; June 30, 1937 , Novosibirsk , RSFSR - May 13, 2015 , Miami , USA ) - Soviet road cyclist, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR , six-time winner of the World Cycle Race in personal and team competition THE USSR.

Biography

Born in Novosibirsk, where his family was exiled during collectivization. During the war, they returned to their homeland in the Chelyabinsk region. Since the age of 15, Gainan has been working at the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant , here in 1954 he began to engage in cycling in the local factory section. Already in 1957 he won his first title. In the same year he became a member of the national team and its captain for 10 years. During his career he was 10 times champion of the USSR.

Champion of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR: 1959 - in the multi-day race and in the team race of 100 km, 1963 - in the group race, 1967 - in the multi-day race (in the team event). USSR champion 1957 and 1959 in the team race for 100 km and in 1963 in the group race. He started nine times in the World bicycle race as a team captain and four times led the USSR national team to victory in the team event - 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966. In 1962 he won in the individual event. Four times he excelled at the stages of the World cycling race and twice at the international cycling race in France, the Tour de l'Avenir , 1978, 1979. In 1965 and 1967 he won the bicycle race for the prize of the Humanite newspaper in France [1] [2] [3] .

He graduated from the Smolensk Institute of Physical Education in 1967 and Moscow State University in 1973. After defending his dissertation for the degree of candidate of pedagogical sciences, he worked for 15 years as the head of the bicycle section of the Institute of Physical Education in Moscow. In parallel, he worked as a coach and an international referee. For his achievements he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and the medal "For Labor Valor" [1] .

Saydzhuzhin died on May 13, 2015 in Miami at the age of 77 from a heart attack [4] .
