Il-18A with tail number 002 (according to other data - 001 , factory - 187000104, serial - 001-04) was released by the factory of the Moscow Shipyard “Banner of Labor” in 1957 and was the fourth IL-18 built. By February 1, 1958, it was handed over to the USSR Air Force and sent to the 2nd Aviation Red Banner Special Purpose Division (2 AKDON , based at Chkalovsky airfield ). In total, at the time of the crash, the plane had 67 flight hours and 120 landings [1] [2] .
Catastrophe
Il-18 (commander of the ship, 1st pilot Colonel Dorosev, Vladimir Lukich [3] ) performed a test flight when a failure occurred and the fire of engine No. 2 (left internal). The problem was that the NK-4 engine had no propeller feathering mechanism, and because of autorotation, it created high aerodynamic drag . There was a moment that the crew could not compensate. When trying to make an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo Airport, the plane lost control and fell to a site in the territory of the Sheremetyevsky village between private houses. As a result of engine failure, the crash of the IL-18 aircraft took place, carrying a group of high-ranking military personnel. All those on the plane (10 people) died, there were no casualties among the residents of the village [1] [2] .
